An Update on Yours Truly

Good morning everyone! As you may know, I haven't been too active on social media at all, including Earthy Foodie. This is due to mental health issues dealing with my depression and anxiety and some other issues; I'd prefer not to go too in depth about it. Anyway, spring has always gotten me in better spirits and it hasn't failed once!

I am currently sitting out on my deck in the backyard and just appreciating nature and the sunshine and the wonderful weather we've been experiencing in my area (temperatures in the 60s and 70s Fahrenheit) and being on spring break this week is also a delightful plus!

Before I started Earthy Foodie, I used to be very invested in small things that could increase one's spirituality (that's the best term I can think of for it). I have always loved tarot, incense and candles, meditation, and the idea of reconnecting with nature. Somewhere between then and now, I got lost (or maybe life just got in the way). I am now trying to bring myself back to those sorts of things, because they made me feel... good (which I haven't really been feeling recently). I think it's very important to reconnect with nature because it's where we all come from and sometimes we forget that and we get the notion that maybe we're better than that and that doing so makes you some sort of hippie or something. That's just untrue. I feel that doing so, balances and realigns the energy within you and grounds you and brings a certain peace that only it can bring. Not making time for such a thing creates a dangerous disconnect.

I am seeking to increase my spirituality (not through religion because I prefer not to align myself with any belief system apart from my own). I've also become quite interested in learning the practice of reiki, "a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing," "it is administered by 'laying on hands' and is based on the idea that an unseen 'life force energy' flows through us and is what causes us to be alive." Many practices of this focus on the balancing of energy between the seven chakras.

I have also decided not to return to school for at least one semester (I am also trying to transfer as the school I currently go to does not offer what I would like to do as a career).

Now that the weather feels nice, I think my mental health will begin to improve. I do not believe that it will heal completely by way of the weather alone, but I certainly do think it's a factor, especially since I am getting more vitamin D now that I am sitting in the sun more (wearing sunscreen, of course). I have also begun to go to therapy, and though I did not benefit from talking my issues out in the past, it is working for me now, which I am truly grateful for.

I hope to be back very soon! Much love to all of you!
